OTC Pill (via NY TImes) →
I think the author of this points out the best argument for the birth control pill being available over-the-counter. Women are smart enough to know when they want to avoid pregnancy and making it more readily available with increase access for many women including those without health insurance and those who don’t want their parents knowing they are on the pill/having sex.

South Africa's Lesbian Soccer Team Has World Cup... →
All day at work I sat around reading about sexual assault and relationship violence. It can be really disheartening. Most of what I’m looking at is prevention, risk reduction, or intervention.
I almost cried when I saw this article. To me its so positive to see women overcoming adversity to do something they love. The fact that these women are out in an area that it is much more dangerous...

How to Have the Kobe is a Rapist Convo (via Ms.) →
I just stumbled upon this after watching the game, but it would have come in handy. No one said anything during this game (probably because they knew it would set me off), but I’ve tried to have it in the past. Its not always easy to stand up in those situation. And I cannot believe the Lakers won (not just because Kobe is a rapist).

AskMen.com Does It Again!
Top 5: Reasons to Keep Your Girlfriend Away from Lilith Fair
Ask Men managed to put together the most misogyinistic list of reasons why you should prevent your girlfriend from spending the day (most of them are only a day long event, not the weekend long event AskMen talks about) enjoying herself with like-minded women. I will save you all from having to read the list and summarize it myself.

I wrote a post about this and then it didn’t post. I’ll let you read/watch this report, these women are very articulate.
I will point y’all to the Wage Project (wageproject.org). This is an initiative aimed at young women getting their first jobs or women switching careers. It teaches women how to negiate for fair pay and tells women what salaries are appropriate for certain...

School Administrators Confiscate Student-Made... →

missnotorious:
How upsettingly symbolic of the silencing of survivors of sexual assault. People don’t want to hear about such “unpleasantries”, so let’s just sweep it under the rug and forget about it instead of letting people educate to prevent it. It’s appalling that a high school, full of the women who will soon fall into an age bracket that is most at risk for...

Are Breasts Inappropriate for the Classroom?
I don’t wear a bra sometimes. Is that gross or disgusting? Inappropriate? Does it depend on the situation? Is it ok to not wear a bra when I’m sitting around studying, but not ok to go braless at work? Do I have to think about it every time I get dressed and change every time I’m in a new situation?
When I don’t wear a bra I’m not thinking about other people and how they’ll react. I’m thinking...

I'm Not a Girl...
…not yet a woman. All I need is… a good word to describe me.
If I were a young man of the same age, I would be a guy. However, I am a young woman, and apparently that is too much of a mouthful. I’ll admit, it would sound awkward in conversation. “Hey, you young women!” doesn’t have quite the same informality as “you guys”, not to mention it doesn’t easily roll off the tongue.
But please don’t...

How Not to Critique Anti-Rape Campaigns →
differentvoicecommunity:
amenenema:
But again, the real problem with this line of criticism is the argument that any image of women’s bodies will invariably make straight men think about sex, and further that thinking about sex is what inspires men to rape. The argument seems to be not that the message is ineffective because men will not absorb it when thinking about sex — though I still find...

Chew it Over, You Dicks (via Feministing) →
Another, possibly worse, example of the sexist Twix commercial. Don’t know how I feel about the gendered insult.

Whore?
The following is based off of a story I heard from a friend about someone I have never met and someone I haven’t seen since high school.
I was talking with two non-feminist identified friends about a high school classmate’s new friend. I have never met this new friend, but she is apparently very abrasive and very into social justice, and presumably feminism. The friend recounting the...
