Dear Rep. Franklin: I Submit My Used Tampons as... →
Dear Rep. Franklin, I applaud your efforts to support the rights of zygote citizens of Georgia by criminalizing miscarriages and investigating every instance of fetal death as a potential crime. The bill you are trying to pass is clear that the Georgia State Assembly knows that life begins at the moment of conception, and that any fertilized egg that dies is a human death that we should all...

Irina Shayk's Unshaven Legs →
I know this seems glib in light of what’s been happening in the world. Seriously, though, do they think that women who don’t shave are incapable of having sex or being sexually attractive? It’s like the two are mutally exlusive. Do they not understand that hair is a sign of sexual power?

Planned Parenthood Funding Blocked in House Vote →
warning: do not read any of the comments on the article. I know people don’t like abortion. But I do know that cutting funding for contraceptives will increase the need for abortion. Planned Parenthood and similar organizations do not just provide abortions and contraception. They also provide HIV tests, cancer screenings and reproductive health services. For many women, Planned Parenthood...

artsexbooksandpolitics-deactiva asked: I was reading Delusions of Gender, by Cordelia, and realized it makes me so confused as to my position on ‘male and female’.

I know some feminists who believe that in order for equality between the sexes, that there has to be the complete extinction of gender itself. That one’s gender shouldn’t differentiate one person from another. You shouldn’t have...

Can Men Be Feminists? (Or: Are All Men Sexist?)
The Can Men Be Feminists blog is an oddity. Be her definition, men are sexist simply because they are men. (The very state of being makes men sexist), and by this definition, so too are women sexist. (And coming from a - apparently - self-identified feminist, this would not only make here a sexist but also a hypocrite). I think there’s a problem with some (many) of these definitions....

mgomes asked: i'm interested in your question of whether men can be feminists. full disclosure: i'm a hetero, white, upper-middle class male, and so am writing as somebody who has been quite privileged, but also as somebody who is aware of that. but, i'm also somebody interested in trying to interrogate and challenge that privilege, and to keep it in check. (whether i am able to do this all the...

achrayes asked: RE: Can men be feminists?
So in one of my classes we read "Can the Master's Tools Dismantle the Master's House", the speech by Audre Lorde for those who might not know it, and we discussed the issue of feminism. We came to some interesting conclusions based off of her speech (focusing on how it was ironic she was one of two women of color at a conference on feminism;...

ohhaiadulthood-deactivated20110 asked: I think your entry on if men can be feminist is very interesting. But can a person be BOTH sexist and feminist? I guess the idea that there is a dichotomy seems false to me.

The F Word: An Introduction →
petitefeministe: First post from the Men’s Health Feminist blog: Feminist is a loaded term. I’m well aware of this. Expressed ever so bluntly by a male friend, “You’re the Men’s Health Feminist? But—you’re not a bitch. I just don’t get it.” Sigh. Turns out, I do not need to be a bitch to be a feminist. Similarly, I do not need burn bras, worship Hillary Clinton, and/or hate men. Truth is—my...
