so non-survivor allies should always support survivors while we cope and process our trauma. if we talk about killing our abusers, shut up and let us talk. if we joke about it, shut up and let us talk. if we don’t want to talk about it, shut up.

survival is hard enough!! 

but the thing is!

a pretty popular trend is that non-survivors really want to get in on the revenge-fantasy stuff.

like: so many non-survivors have these hero complexes that I see peeking out (I’d help you get revenge, consistently talking about going out and shooting particular peoples’ rapists, talking about what our coping mechanisms)

and it grosses me the fuck out because I am a victim but I need to own my victimhood for my benefit, certainly not to make non-survivors feel better about themselves as feminists or whatever or make you feel fierce

so here’s the thing. i don’t actually hate all men, but if i keep unapologetically saying things like “i hate men”, it’s because

i started my feminism being all gender-inclusive, almost even more focused on the men, all “but feminism helps men, too” and all “a feminist man is my ultimate hero”

and i always believed/still believe in the humanity of men, emphasized that women and men are much more alike than society makes it out, that men and women are more than their genders, that equality is self-evident and men are able to act like it, that chauvinism and sexism are learned, that the majority of the problems in society have sociological and not biological reasons. that men are not inherently pigs or rapists.

how did men respond to that? the same fucking way they talked about women and the genders like they did before i got concerned about ~equality~. they were the ones saying that “men just are this way! they can’t help it”, and that there is an inevitable rape-gene, and that without sex work, there’d be more rape. they were the ones degrading themselves to their biology, implying that men are “born pigs”. i didn’t come up with this.

so don’t be disheartened by me embracing the prejudice that you are spreading about yourselves. you scare me and i have a right to protect myself.

I started out as so lenient and male-inclusive in my feminism yet men kept on being generally awful.

And even with my ‘focus’ on men they kept demanding more and more attention. Give them 50% and they’ll take everything.

So now when MRAs start whining about feminism ‘ignoring’ male rape and male abuse and hypermasculinity I just laugh and cry at the same time because WE DON’T IGNORE THEM. BUT YOU WANTING TO BE THE FOCUS ALL THE DAMN TIME MAKES ME IGNORE YOU. IT’S CALLED ‘FEMINISM’. IT DOES HAVE BENEFITS FOR MEN BUT I’VE STOPPED CARING ABOUT THAT BECAUSE YOU DON’T WANT THINGS TO BE EQUAL. YOU WANT THINGS TO BE ONLY ABOUT YOU YOU YOU ALL THE DAMN TIME.

All of this! 

I am done with the phrase “feminism helps men too”. BECAUSE IT DOESN’T APPEASE ANYONE. It just dilutes the issues.

Men aren’t supposed to be caretakers, sweet, gentle, and loving. So seeing them behave this way, especially with the most precious people (children) folks get geeked up.
