BEE: The GOP platform is clear: no abortion, no exceptions. But the GOP candidate disagrees. How would the delegates who ratified this platform reconcile the difference?

The cognitive dissonance that pro-lifers (and republicans) have about abortion (and other things but abortion especially) is just astounding to me.

I’ve been writing for this bog for almost three years now and it’s still something that I am shocked by. When people actually ask them straight up about their feelings on abortion, the loops they jump through still amaze me. And in this case the stuff they’re talking about with civil liberties and stuff happens RIGHT AFTER they talk about how Mitt Romney has a choice about his personal views on abortion and they respect that even though they don’t mesh with the platform.

I just…it’s like Samantha Bee and other journalists I’ve seen have to make the mental connections and point out the hypocrisy FOR these people because they just can’t do it for or see it for themselves. Or they refuse to. But the woman she interviews and the response she gives in that gif makes me believe that they’ve just never had the cognitive dissonance pointed out or really thought about what they are truly advocating for and the consequences of it.
